The Walk Out
Most BRIT School graduates leave with a performing arts diploma and a sense of possibility. Adele leaves with a signed contract. By the time her classmates are filling out university applications and sending CVs, she is in a recording studio in London working on her debut album with producers who have been told by XL to let her do whatever she wants.

From the 90210 Soundtrack (2008). One of Adele's rarest recordings: a collaboration with The Raconteurs (Jack White's side project) recorded shortly after she left the BRIT School. Over a driving garage-rock arrangement, Adele trades vocals with Brendan Benson. It sounds nothing like anything on 19 or 21, and that's the point: this is the moment between school and stardom, when she's still figuring out what kind of artist she's going to be.
Many Shades of Black, Adele & The Raconteurs (2008)
Read the lyrics while you listen. This is Adele singing with Jack White's band two years after leaving the BRIT School. The vocal sits in a completely different register than anything on her solo albums. It's the road not taken: what Adele might have sounded like if she'd gone rock instead of soul.
