The Cancellation
She postpones her Las Vegas residency 24 hours before opening night. Fans are at the airport. She cries in an Instagram video.
January 20, 2022, twenty-four hours before opening night. Adele posts a tearful video to Instagram telling millions of fans that her Las Vegas residency is not ready, and the shows are off.
Adele, "Oh My God" (official music video, 2022). Directed by Sam Brown, the video is the most visually bold of Adele's career: dancers, fire, chairs stacked to the ceiling, and choreography she'd never attempted before. The confidence on screen is the version of Adele that Vegas eventually gets to see.
Oh My God
"Oh My God" opens with a clap pattern and staccato strings that announce a different Adele: loose, rhythmic, unbothered. The production buries the piano beneath layers of percussion and plucked strings, and her vocal rides on top of the beat rather than carrying the whole song. Notice how she's almost whispering in the verses, conspiratorial, before the chorus breaks wide open. This is post-divorce Adele deciding to have fun.
The Postponement
The original Weekends with Adele residency is supposed to run from January to April 2022 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. But rehearsals aren't going well. Stage design delays, COVID complications among the crew, and Adele's own feeling that the show isn't worthy of her audience lead to the decision to pull the plug. Fans who have already booked flights and hotels to Las Vegas are devastated.
“"I'm so sorry, but my show ain't ready. We've tried absolutely everything we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we've been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVID."”
TAP TO REVEAL: What was the real reason Adele scrapped the show 24 hours before opening?
The Colosseum at Caesars Palace
The 4,300-seat venue that became Adele's home stage. No arenas, no stadiums, no tour buses. Just one room, the same audience distance every night, and a voice that can fill it without trying.
How many months elapsed between the postponement and the actual opening of Weekends with Adele?
To Be Loved
From 30 (2021). The emotional peak of the album. Just Adele and a piano, building from a whisper to the most powerful vocal on any record she's ever made. Her voice cracks near the end, and she lets it. She doesn't fix it, doesn't re-record. In the context of a woman who just cancelled her biggest show because it wasn't good enough, that crack is everything: the moment where perfectionism gives way to truth.
To Be Loved, Adele (2021)
Read the lyrics while you listen. This is Adele alone at the piano with nowhere to hide. The final verse is where the voice breaks and she lets it stay broken. That choice tells you everything about what 30 means to her.
Weekends with Adele
Night after night, Adele fills the Colosseum with the songs that defined her career, from "Hometown Glory" to "Easy On Me." But the final chapter of this season isn't about the hits. It's about one song, one glass of wine, and what happens when there's nothing left to prove.
