For thirteen months after Lemonade, only one side of the story exists. Then Jay-Z releases 4:44 and does something nobody expects from hip-hop's most guarded mogul: he says she was right about everything.

No I.D. produced the entire album, and the title track is built on a sample of Hannah Williams & The Affirmations' "Late Nights & Heartbreak." The production is deliberately bare: piano, drums, the sample, and Jay-Z's voice. No hooks, no chorus, no escape. What makes the song extraordinary is its specificity. Jay-Z references Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" to describe what he almost lost. He mentions their therapist. He talks about watching Beyonce perform at the Grammys while pregnant with twins.

Everything Is Love
The final chapter came on June 16, 2018, when Beyonce and Jay-Z surprise-dropped Everything Is Love during a London concert on their On the Run II tour. They filmed the "Apeshit" video inside the Louvre, dancing in front of the Mona Lisa. Lemonade was the accusation, 4:44 the confession, Everything Is Love the celebration.
Family Feud (feat. Beyonce)
"Family Feud" is 4:44's thesis in miniature: Jay-Z raps about legacy, loyalty, and the fear of losing both. Beyonce sings on the hook, turning it into a duet between two people who have decided to stay but have not yet figured out the terms.
